Mackay Sugar cane train derails on Sugar Shed Rd, Mackay

A cane train has derailed on a Mackay road, with a crane called in to help clean up the mess — including full bins.

A fully loaded cane train went off the rails west of Mackay earlier this afternoon.

Late in the morning Mackay Sugar employees were seen at a railway intersection at 241-255 Sugar Shed Rd, Erakala, with one locomotive off the tracks and several cane bins loose.

A crane was seen lifting carriages to the side of the road, and a second locomotive had to wait while the mess was cleaned up.

The roadway is now open to traffic.

Mackay Sugar declined to comment.

Police and fire crews were not seen at the incident, nor where they aware when contacted by this masthead.
