Hitachi Construction Machinery proposes new Mackay facility in Paget
A Japanese manufacturer is looking to open its next Mackay location just up the road in what used to be cane farming land, adding 35 new cars to peak hour traffic, and 474 extra trips on the road each day.

A long empty lot in Mackay’s industrial district might soon be the new home of a substantial manufacturing facility.
Hitachi Construction Machinery, a Japanese construction equipment company with locations around the world, is looking to open a second facility just up the road from its current location on 12 Southgate Dr, Paget.
The new location has been proposed for the vacant block of land at 161-179 Maggiolo Dr and will have a 235m frontage on both Maggiolo Dr but also Centurion Dr.
Vacant since 2013, the 34,205 square metre had previously been used for sugar cane farming and other rural activities before it was subdivided into 10 smaller lots.
The new development will include a large building to house a workshop and manufacturing space as well as a warehouse.
A smaller attached building will house offices, lunch rooms, training spaces and administration areas.
Two smaller buildings for painting and washing of vehicles and equipment will also be present on site.
The location will have 127 car parks as well as four parking spots for trucks and heavy vehicles.
It’s expected that traffic to and from this facility will add an additional 35 vehicles to peak hour traffic and generate up to 474 trips each day.
Hitachi hopes to mitigate traffic congestion with access onto both Centurion and Maggiolo Dr.
In the development documents Hitachi wrote that it expects the surrounding road to be capable of accommodating the new traffic due to the roads being developed for the purpose of industrial use.
Hitachi has declined to comment at this stage in the development process.
