Emergency crews called after car engulfed by fire outside Caneland Central, Mackay

Fire crews were called to douse a car on fire just outside a busy North Queensland shopping centre.

A car was engulfed in flames outside a busy Mackay shopping centre.

The owner, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “I just heard a loud bang and smoke coming out of the bonnet.

“I lifted it up and the engine was all on fire.”

Emergency services were called to Mangrove Road outside Caneland Central shopping centre just after 2pm on Wednesday after reports a car was on fire.

Queensland Fire Department spokesman said one crew were on scene and the car was “fully involved” when they arrived.

The occupant of the vehicle was able to self extricate and did not need medical assistance, a Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the fire was non suspicious.
