COUNCIL will freeze all fees, charges and levies for the next 12 months, in a concerted effort to tackle cost of living expenses for the region's ratepayers.

Mayor Deirdre Comerford said the unprecedented move was a major achievement and recognised the economic challenges faced by the community.

"This is a first for council and is directly attributed to our focus on finding efficiencies and operational savings," she said.

Council approved to keep hundreds of Commercial Fees and Charges at 2014 levels.

Some have even been reduced to stimulate activity.

These include a 20% drop in the application fee for units and a 25% reduction in applications for caravan parks, hotels and childcare centres.

Council has also announced that the seven major charges and levies that appear on the annual rates notices will remain unchanged from last year's rates notice.
