The Mackay region is booming, and new businesses are popping up everywhere to cater for the demand from the influx of people.
While not every business can open in Mackay, residents have had their say on what they want to see come to the region.
Bert Kaya
“We don’t have enough places that sell fresh produce. The big supermarkets aren’t selling stuff that’s fresh enough or properly looked after, and there aren’t enough specific fruit and vegetable shops.”
Susan Chavasse
“An Aldi wouldn’t go astray, we only have Coles and Woolies and little local markets in Mackay but I think Aldi is a bit cheaper.”
Miriam Duncan
“Supermarkets that are open before 8am and after 6pm would be great, I’ve only been living in Mackay for a couple of months but I’ve only found one Coles and one IGA open after 6pm nearby.”
Alex Beovich
“Aldi is a big one everyone seems to want, I don’t get why it’s not here yet. Closest one is in Rockhampton, how is there not one closer to town?”
Ronald Griggs
“I don’t want any one business to open, but you walk down Victoria Street and nowhere is open. I just want everyone to open back up and start to sell stuff to the public again.”
