It was fourth time lucky for a Collinsville retiree, who scratched her way to a $100k win, while a Mackay woman’s weekly routine has landed her a $50k windfall.
Both women took home the top winning prize on Instant Scratch-Its tickets.
The retiree said she even had to pull out a magnifying glass to make sure she was seeing the ticket correctly.
She had bought the $5 Instant Scratch-Its ticket on Tuesday morning at Nugent’s Central Newsagency at Collinsville, while the Mackay woman bought her $4 Beehive Bingo ticket at News on Bridge, West Mackay.
“I have been buying Instant Scratch-Its tickets for years and years. I just love them,” the Mackay woman said.
“I usually buy one ticket a week and then I go home and scratch them while I am having a cup of coffee.
“I couldn’t believe I’d won at first. Once they confirmed it, well, that’s when I started crying. There were lots and lots of tears.”
The retiree said when she popped into the newsagency there were a number of Instant Scratch-Its tickets that had not been opened yet.
“So I bought four tickets and it was the fourth ticket that was the winner,” she said.
“I checked it about four or five times. I even got the magnifying glass out to be sure.
“It was very exciting.”
Now with $100,000 about to hit her bank account, the woman said a new set of wheels was at the very top of her wish list.
“I’m not too sure about the rest but I know I will enjoy it throughout my retirement,” she said.
The Mackay woman plans to take her take her family out for a nice dinner “and spoil ourselves a little”.
“I would love to go on a little holiday and help my family,” she said.
“The rest I will keep for a rainy day.”
News on Bridge team member Janelle Danasdas said it was an “incredible surprise” for the winner.
“It’s amazing selling a top prize winning ticket to a customer and we can’t wait to do it again,” Ms Danasdas said.
Nugent’s Central Newsagency owner Margaret Nugent said it was exciting to see the prize go to a local and regular customer.
“This is the first top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket we have sold here,” she explained.
“It’s lovely news for us and our winning customer but also the entire community.”
