JAIME, 34, and her husband Jason, 39, have a savings strategy. After all the bills are paid they try to save as much as possible. The couple also has investment properties, which are forced savings.

Jaime said she's always been a saver.

She said she has concerns about job security and economic certainty in Mackay.

"My work situation hinges on money flow; massage is sometimes not a necessity so it's something that can go on the back burner," she said.

However, Jaime is still comfortable about spending on leisure activities with the family.

"We go camping and fishing, and sports are quite costly.

"And food, I always make sure it's nice and healthy and that's a huge expense."

She said a combination of spending pressures were being felt, especially with electricity and rates bills.
