MACKAY residents are leading state trends as the most savvy mobile phone shoppers.

Shoppers love to browse online websites on their smartphones, especially on sites like eBay.

The website found people with the postcode 4740 beat other towns in Queensland to rank number one.

As shoppers, we love to buy phone accessories, dresses and DVDs online.

Angie Hunt said she loved how easy it was to make purchases via her iPhone 5.

"There's a few clothes websites that I have bought things from because sometimes it's cheaper than in-store," Miss Hunt said.

"I like to shop on my phone because I can sit in my pyjamas on my couch. I have no trouble at all shopping on my phone online.

"I've just moved into a new place and all the stuff I got was off eBay - it was really cheap."

Miss Hunt had previously shopped online on her laptop.

"I mainly shop for clothes online but now it's Christmas stuff, but it depends what's going on," she said.

"It's shopping at your fingertips.

"But when I get time off work I scoot around to the shops and try things on."

Telstra Caneland Central assistant store leader Melissa Burkhardt said smartphones were definitely the most popular phone choice.

"It's not very often that people come in wanting a phone to just talk and text, even if they do, they walk out with a smartphone," Ms Burkhardt said.

"Everyone offers cap plans, which offer gigabytes, which is your download data.

"With the bigger screens... (it means) you don't have to have a laptop and a phone."

Telstra's top phones are the Samsung Galaxy, Motorola Razr HD and the iPhone.

"The release of the 4G service makes them popular," Ms Burkhardt said.

"Being a smartphone - you get a computer as well as a phone."

Easier. I got my first mobile in Year 4. I use it to contact my parents and go on Facebook.

Harder. People can find me now. But I usually only use it for work purposes to make calls.
