Mining operations have stopped at Goonyella Riverside after the death of a worker onsite last night.
BMA confirmed the man suffered a medical emergency at the site about 30km north of Moranbah.
“The worker reported feeling unwell and the site Emergency Response Team responded and was supported by the Queensland Ambulance Service,” a BMA spokesman said.
“The safety and wellbeing of our workforce is our main priority.
“We have stopped operations onsite while we take the time to inform and support our workforce about the incident.
“All regulatory authorities, including police, have been notified.”
The spokesman said operations would remain stood down until teams were ready to resume work.
“We extend our deepest condolences and support to our colleague’s family,” he said.
“We are also providing support and counselling to our colleagues through our Employee Assistance Program.”
Goonyella was involved in a coronial hearing last year for a non-medical death at the mine.
