Pub with good reputation and "lovely food” for sale 20 minutes out of Mackay

A RARE Queensland icon just 20 minutes from Mackay is up for sale with beers, spirits and 131 years of history.

The General Gordon Hotel has been listed with Juanita Wanda Halden for just 48 hours and she has already taking a potential buyer through the historic pub and had 1200 hits online.

The Homebush hotel is a two-storey building that includes six accommodation rooms, owner's living quarters, rear garden shed, shed attached to the house, a 68-panel solar system, a huge outdoor dining area and, of course, the pub.

Ms Halden said the three current owners of 13 years were heading in different directions and were keen to sell the pub 20 minutes south-west of Mackay.

"It is very popular because that particular country charm is becoming quite rare," she said.

"One of the positives is that it doesn't have any pokies but, instead, a good social darts competition and pool tables. The eight-ball association has their table in there too."

Ms Halden said the General Gordon also had just received a permit for nine caravan sites on the pub's land, to open up the travelling grey nomad tourism market.

She said expressions of interest were being sought but it was expected the property would go for more than half a million dollars.

On the pub's Facebook page there are 44 reviews - 32 five star, nine four star, two reviews for two stars and one for one star.

Jim and Annette wrote in June that it was a "great spot, doing a good job for locals and caravaners. Had a great meal along with the other five caravaners. Facilities are clean, drinks cold and meals good."

Chris Jones wrote on July 19 that the pub was "an oldie but a goodie" and he promised to return.

"A great place for $5 camping behind the pub, friendly atmosphere and great pub meals that are reasonably priced. Who could ask for more?" Dianne Neesom wrote on June 22.

The one star review came from Maureen Jones on June 3. "Food was lovely," she wrote. "I was just a bit upset as we walked out people were drunk and fighting and doesn't look good for the hotel."
