Four Logan-based Labor MPs are in line for high-level Cabinet posts after last month’s state election, even though no announcements have been made while counting continues in the seats of Currumbin, Nicklin and Bundaberg.

So far, the Labor Party has taken 50 seats, the LNP 33, The Greens two, the Katter Party and One Nation with one seat each.

Current figures reflect a statewide swing of 4.2 per cent to the Labor Party, which has scored about 40 per cent of the primary vote compared to the LNP’s 35.8 per cent.

In Logan, all of the Labor MPs were returned to their seats and it’s likely the four MPs with portfolios – Shannon Fentiman, Mick de Brenni, Leeanne Enoch and Cameron Dick will all retain Cabinet positions.

Treasurer Cameron Dick won his seat of Woodridge with a massive 26.4 per cent margin, the second widest margin in the state behind Rob Katter in Traeger with a 28.5 per cent margin. He will retain his coveted frontbench position.

The ALP, LNP and One Nation battled it out for the seat of Waterford, which was held by Ms Fentiman with a 10.7 per cent margin, with her margin increasing to 16 per cent.

In the seat of Logan, ALP Party whip Linus Power was returned.

Mr Power could be a new contender for a frontbench position after holding party whip roles.

In Springwood, Sports Minister Mick de Brenni was returned to his seat with an 8.5 per cent margin – well up on the 3.6 per cent margin he started out with. He is likely to hold his frontbench positions despite coming under scrutiny in an Auditor-General report over how sports grants were allocated.

Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch was returned to the seat of Algester with an 18.63 per cent margin, up from 14.4 per cent at the 2017 election.

Ms Enoch is likely to hold her frontbench position.

First-termer Melissa McMahon won her seat, which came under scrutiny after a residents’ group started complaining about a Coomera Connector ploughing past their back doors.

Mrs McMahon was also returned with a wider margin or 9.85 per cent up from 7.4 per cent she gained in 2017.

She edged out LNP candidate Judi Van Manen, the wife of Bert van Manen.

In the bayside seat of Redlands, the ALP candidate Kim Richards was returned with a 3.6 per cent margin after a swing of 11.3 per cent on the primary vote, one of the largest in the state.

The seat was the focus of a bitter campaign between the LNP and the first-term Labor candidate Ms Richards.

Ms Richards was returned to fulfil promises of a $60 million program to widen the Cleveland-Redland Bay Rd bottleneck to two lanes between Redland Bay and Cleveland.

Work has already started with the installation of traffic lights at the Redland Bay T-junction with Anita St.

Ms Richards has also played a part in garnering a $62 million building project to transform Redland Hospital, at Cleveland, into a major metropolitan facility, allowing it to treat up to six patients in the hospital’s first ICU ward.

A new fire station, mobile police beat and a new satellite hospital at Weinam Creek are also other election promises.
