Television journalist Kendall Gilding has revealed a shocking beach accident involving her husband that left her fearing he may never walk again.
Gilding, who writes a column for Qweekend, shared an emotional post to social media on Tuesday revealing her husband Tim Morgan had been left in a neck brace after he was dumped in rough surf and went head first into a sandbar at Burleigh Beach.
“On the weekend we went over to Burleigh beach for one final swim. A quick 10 minute adventure. That’s all,” she wrote in a post on Instagram.
“Tim was badly dumped by a wave and went head first into a sandbar. What happened afterwards was equally as traumatic when he started blacking out on the beach.
“Grateful to the lifeguards. If anyone knows the name of the chief lifeguard at Burleigh please let me know? He’s also a qualified paramedic. I want to thank him personally!
“Lots of people with these kinds of injuries don’t walk again. Praise God Tim will be fine & recover with time!
“Christmas, school holidays and 2025 suddenly look very different, but we’ve got a beautiful village who are rallying to support us!”
The post was flooded with comments, including from Olympic gold medallist Sally Pearson, Giaan Rooney, Amy Sheppard and Edwina Bartholomew.
Her post revealed images of the pair in hospital, with Tim receiving scans and other treatments as their child played under his bed.
A report released by Surf Life Saving Australia in September found that 150 people had drowned across the country in the past year.
Without the help of lifeguards and volunteer lifesavers that number would be over 1600.
Surf Life Saving Australia CEO Adam Weir said drowning incidents were significantly more frequent over holiday periods and urged swimmers to be cautious.
