Kate Jones, Todd Greenberg, Craig McLatchey tipped to be on the 2032 Olympics board

Both PM Scott Morrison and Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will have an equal say on who is appointed to the board to run the Olympics, with some high-profile names already in the mix.

THE Prime Minister Scott Morrison and premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will determine the 17-person board that runs the Olympics, and which executives guide the organisation.

The presidency of the Olympics board will be advertised, and a head-hunting firm will cut the field down to five, before the PM and premier make the call.

The board will be made up of five representatives from the Commonwealth, five from the state, five independents and two from local government.

The administrative arm of the organisation will be run by a chief executive and senior executive team.

Names in the mix for the CEO’s job include former Tourism Minister Kate Jones, former NRL boss Todd Greenberg and the man who held the Brisbane bid together, Olympics expert Craig McLatchey.

Other names being bandied about include Tourism director-general John Lee and former Gold Coast City CEO Dale Dickson.

Names being put up for the chairman’s role include Star boss John O’Neill, former Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk and former Commonwealth Games chairman Peter Beattie.

There is also another statutory body which will complement the main board, concentrating on the delivery of infrastructure and Games venues.

An IOC source said it was unprecedented for a Federal Government to “come to the party so early with a 50-50 funding arrangement with the state’.

“IOC president (Thomas) Bach was very impressed with the PM’s enthusiasm for this,’’ said an IOC source.

“The PM made it very clear that if the Commonwealth was going halves with the money, they wanted an equal say with the state on who runs it.’’

The Courier Mail understands there was much argy bargy on this issue, with the Palaszczuk Government initially committed to setting up the board as a state instrumentality, run by state bureaucrats.

In fact, Fairfax MP and the Federal Government’s Olympics representative, Ted O’Brien, said the Commonwealth had pushed the bid much harder than Queensland.

“There was reluctance ... yes certainly they had to be pushed 18 months ago,’’ said Mr O’Brien.

“I said as much in parliament.’’

AOC president John Coates said a full dress rehearsal of Brisbane’s final bid was scheduled to take place last night.

The final pitch will be around 5pm today, with a vote expected an hour later.

Mr Coates said the final bid was “right on track’’.

“It’s going to be a big day,’’ he said.
