Teens charged over break-ins, assault of elderly woman

Dramatic CCTV footage has captured the moment an armed teen entered a home in an up-market Brisbane suburb in broad daylight, dragging a woman through the house, demanding her keys, in a terrifying home invasion.

Police allege that about 11am a boy and a girl broke into two homes on Roseleigh St, Kalinga, threatening occupants with a knife and demanded car keys.

It is also alleged a 78-year-old woman was assaulted by the boy while she attempted to leave the house.

The boy then allegedly broke into another house before threatening two women, aged 50 and 42, with a knife.

Footage captures a woman sitting in her kitchen on her phone when a juvenile bursts into the Kalinga home, as a second person waits outside.

The juvenile makes demands for the woman, who barely speaks English, to hand over her car keys.

“Where are your keys? Show me where your f – king keys are now,” he yelled.

The juvenile is then captured on camera dragging her through the house, waving a knife, and threatening another woman inside.

He gave up his search for keys and jumped off the second-storey balcony of the house.

Minutes earlier, the same group were inside another house on the same street and attacked a 78-year-old woman.

It’s understood the juveniles held a knife to her neck, dragged her through her house, leaving her with cuts to her arms.

The 78-year-old woman was transported to hospital for treatment of lacerations to her forearms and minor injuries.

Neighbours Chrissy and Michael detailed what they saw to The Today Show.

“Well I heard my neighbour call out my name and I came running. I asked if she was okay and she said ‘no’ so I said I am going to call triple-0 … I called triple-0 and described the offenders and told them exactly where they went,” Chrissy said.

“She is an elderly woman living on her own … she is not a mum.”

Michael told Today more needs to be done by the government to make a change to the ongoing youth crime crisis in Queensland.

“There’s not a simple answer. If there were, we would’ve found it by now. But I don’t think the government is doing enough,” Michael said.

“There need to be consequences for people who are offending regularly … we need to get serious about it.”
