'Youse' are gonna love this year's business awards emcee

A logie-award winning actress and writer will take centre stage at this years business awards

SHE'S a Logie-winning actor and writer who, through her comedic character Effie, has cemented her place in the hearts of Australians.

But next month Mary Coustas will take centre stage at the Lockyer Valley Business, Training and Apprenticeship awards as the emcee.

Coustas has entertained and moved us in a huge range of TV shows, film and theatre with her comic and dramatic work for the past 30 years and next month she'll be here to "make youse laugh" at the awards.

It was Wogs Out of Work in the late 1980s that launched her career.

Following that, the Channel 7 sitcom Acropolis Now ran for five hit seasons and gave birth to Coustas's most known and beloved character, the bold and boofy Effie.

Following the devastating stillbirth of her daughter, Stevie, Coustas's personal motto of "nothing good comes from giving up" carried her towards her greatest achievement, the birth of her healthy and beautiful daughter, Jamie, in November 2013.

Lockyer Valley Mayor Tanya Milligan said Coustas's warmth and humour would make this year's awards ceremony one to remember.

"Not only will Mary be our MC in her character Effie, she'll also be the night's entertainment and I'm sure she will have everyone in stitches," Cr Milligan said.

"Thanks to Mary's courage and personal story, she's become an inspiration to many.

"We look forward to welcoming Effie to the region for what's sure to be a wonderful event."

The Lockyer Valley Business Training and Apprenticeship Awards Gala Dinner will be held at Gatton Shire Hall on Saturday, October 19.
