Join Ipswich's big night at Showgrounds

THE Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club is anticipating a great atmosphere at Saturday night's race meeting at the Showgrounds.

The occasion is being promoted with the themes of "Hope For A Cure'' and ''Race For A Cause.''

The idea is to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Two new feature races are on the card.

Race six is a fifth grade over 520 metres for greyhounds trained by women.

Race eight is the $6500 Beat Breast Cancer Cup over 732 metres.

In the Lady Trainers event, in-form trainer Casey Dargusch from Atkinson's Dam has Big Hero Six in box one and Never Walk Alone in box eight.

Both look realistic winning chances.

Dargusch also trains the reserve Red Hot Gossip so could potentially end up with three runners.

The Beat Breast Cancer Cup looks a pretty even field.

None of the eight runners have won over 732 metres, not that there are many races over that distance at Ipswich.

The Peter O'Reilly trained Red Hot Spur ran two placings at Albion Park over 710 metres during the winter carnival races there and should measure up well in this company.

The Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club will donate $100 for every box eight (pink rug) winner.

It will be a case of the crowd cheering "Go the Pink Dog'' in each race.

The 10 event card starts at 5.52pm.

Each race is sponsored so some funds for the charity are already locked in that way.

Ipswich auction surprises

EVEN the most optimistic observers were surprised at the keen bidding at last Sunday's Ipswich Magical Puppy Auction held at the Showgrounds.

Two hundred and 18 lots were sold at prices ranging from $1500 to $27,000.

The $27,000 sale was a seven months old bitch by Dyna Double One out of Not Like Tommy.

It's the dam's first litter. She won 20 races.

The second highest sale was $19,000 for a Thirty Talks - Regal Lauryn dog aged eight months.

The dam's first litter, which was by Barcia Bale, produced multiple winners.

A fee of $17,000 was paid for a 10 month-old dog by Keybow out of Miss Blockbuster. It's the dam's first litter.

There were 10 lots which sold for $10,000 or more. Six of those 10 were male dogs.

Qld hopes in Wentworth Park Chase

THREE Queensland runners are in tomorrow night's heats of the Million Dollar Chase at Sydney's Wentworth Park.

Darren Russell has Fab Fit in box one and Precious Sal in box eight.

Tom Tzouvelis has Maurice Minor drawn box seven.

I will be cheering for Precious Sal.

She won the last race that I called at my final meeting at Albion Park last week and I tipped her.
