Football's greatest a matter of opinion

BOMBER'S BLAST

WHEN greatest sporting polls are conducted, it always causes huge debate between followers of that sport.

It is hard to compare a champion from say the 60's to the 80's to today's superstars.

The equipment has changed dramatically, the body shapes are a lot different plus the game plans are not the same.

Is Wally Lewis better then Andrew Johns, Reg Gasnier or John Raper?

Is Viv Richards better than Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar or even Don Bradman?

I guess all these answers are a matter of opinion and these days everyone seems to have one.

One of soccer's greats, Pele, has caused quite a stir by offering his opinion on who the best he has seen. He went for Diego Maradona over Lionel Messi as he reckons Messi is only a one foot player.

I would favour Messi over Maradona.

If I was picking a side I would have both these greats in it though. I probably would also would find a place for Pele.

EPL frontrunners

THE English Premier League season is 16 games old and the top four is filled by the usual suspects.

Chelsea are fourth on 34 points with a 10-4-2 record. Tottenham occupy third (36 pts) with a 12-0-4 record.

The top two positions are filled by the teams that most good judges had as a good chance of lifting the trophy come season's end.

Second position is filled by the team that were short priced favourites from the start of the season in Manchester City, who suffered only their first loss last weekend.

I am happy to say mighty Liverpool are sitting in top spot with a record showing they have not suffered a loss yet.

Can they go all the way?

The season is long and I predict a lot of position changes at the top will occur.

While the top four are in sparkling form, you can't say that about Huddersfield, Southampton or Fulham who sit in the relegation zone.

Two players sit at the top of the goal scoring ladder in Liverpool's Mohamad Salah, who after a slow start to the season is now firing on all cylinders, and Arsenal star  Pierre-Emerick Aubameyamg.

Quick thoughts

HERO of the week 1: Australian heavyweight champion Demsey McKean who continued on his unbeaten run with another victory. He now sits at 13-0 with the past four victories by TKO.

Hero of the week 2: It's not often someone can say they out hit master blaster Chris Lynn, but Ipswich Hornets left-hander Dan Wilson can. He blasted 10 fours and 13 sixes in his incredible knock of 131.

Villain of the week: The ACT Government who fined the Canberra Raiders $150,000 for taking a game next year to Wagga and away from Canberra. They must really want to grow the sport in the bush.

Did you know? The highest 10th wicket partnership in a one day international is 106. It was scored by West Indies pair Viv Richards and Michael Holding.
