CLAUDE Dacey is something of a marvel among greyhound trainers.

The Ormeau-based trainer is enjoying one of the best runs of success in his long time with greyhounds. This is mainly due to the deeds of a Paw Licking - Dayseas Astra home bred litter.

One of that litter, Corykodi, scored a thrilling win last Saturday in the biggest race run at Capalaba each year, the Mich-ael Miller Memorial.

Corykodi got home by the bearest possible margin, a nose, over the Merv Page trained highly promising type Little Rippa.

Dacey heads to Ipswich tomorrow night where Corykodi and litter brother Kenatay will contest heats of the Ipswich Derby over 520 metres.

Kenatay, also a Capalaba winner last Saturday, has box three.

Corykodi is in box six. That draw is actually ideal for Corykodi, who has six wins from 10 starts from box six in his career.

Dacey is a Brisbane Broncos tragic. Corykodi is named for key Broncos players Corey Oates and Kodi Nikorima.

Corykodi won the prestigious Pop Northfield Maiden at Casino nearly 12 months ago. That was from box six.

You might ask why Dacey is a "marvel'' just because he is having a good run? He is 84 years of age.

Trainer's four-pronged Futurity bid

TOMORROW'S card at the Showgrounds also features three heats of the Ipswich Futurity, set aside for female greyhounds.

Claude Dacey has four runners in those heats, all members of the Paw Licking - Dayseas Astra litter. They are Classy Cassie (box five), Love the Look (box three), Nikki Nettle (box five) and Power Service (box seven).

Power Service has been out of form lately but the other three look hard to beat in their races despite those awkward box draws.

Away from Dacey's runners, the Tony Apap trained Give It Some looks a really strong chance in heat two of the Futurity.

Racing tomorrow night commences at 5.24pm.

Million Dollar Chase

HEATS of Australia's newest and richest series for greyhounds, the Million Dollar Chase, are taking place at various tracks throughout NSW.

At Lismore last Tuesday night, a couple of trainers who race regularly at Ipswich won heats. George Clegg scored with recent Townsville Cup winner Big Bad Bob and Darren Russell won with Snug.

Snug has drawn box one for the Lismore final on Tuesday. Big Bad Bob is drawn seven, the box from which he won the Townsville Cup.

First and second home in the Lismore final progress to semi-finals at Wentworth Park in Sydney next month.

The winner of the October 20 final at Wentworth collects $1 million.
