A family which owns four hardware stores across Ipswich and the Scenic Rim is hoping to build another one, with plans submitted to the council for a vacant block of land.

Gibson Architects lodged a development application to Ipswich City Council concerning a 6300 m2 site on Briggs Road in Raceview.

The application was signed off by SBTE Pty Ltd director Tony Richardson.

The Richardsons own Mitre 10 hardware stores in Ipswich, Kalbar, Boonah and Lowood.

The new hardware store would be built just up the street from the Briggs Road Hockey Complex.

The building would have a total gross floor area of 1800 m2.

Access will be via two new crossovers to Briggs Road, with a total of 33 car parks proposed.

“The development is to comprise an internal shop area, rear undercover storage yard, internal delivery area and minor outdoor display area and is to be located to the southwestern corner of the site orientated to Briggs Road,” the application noted.

“The northern driveway crossover provides entry for all vehicles and as the exit for the adjacent customer car park.

“The southern crossover is to function as an exit only from the internal delivery area.”

It is proposed the store would operate 6am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 6am to 6pm on weekends.

“The proposed development achieves a high-quality, contemporary design with an articulated building featuring variations in openings, recesses, building treatment and materials,” the application noted.

“The proposed materials and finishes are to include Colorbond cladding in a range of colours, concrete tilt-up panels, powder coated aluminium framed glazing and Colorbond roof sheeting.

“The Briggs Road frontage is to include expansive glazed areas addressing the street and providing a clear pedestrian entry point.”

A pre-lodgement meeting was held with council officers in April.

There is no indication from the application it would be another Mitre 10 store but the development is still in its infancy.
