While 1950s-born Ipswich residents have grown older as the years have passed, one immaculate home in Brassall has remained unchanged — etched in time from a bygone era.
The iconic home is known to many long-time local residents who have driven past it daily on their way to school, work, friends’ houses, or the shops, and is widely referred to today as ‘the dollhouse’.
Now, for the very first time, it is available for purchase.
Photos of the property taken recently by Ipswich Real Estate agent Jason McNamara and shared to his Facebook have been immensely popular, amassing 779 likes, 889 comments, and 1200 shares in just four days.
They depict a neat exterior and a one-storey, flat-roofed home with three bedrooms — one pink, one blue, and one green —, one bathroom, two toilets, a lilac sewing room, a 1950s-style green kitchen, and a beige lounge room.
One admirer commented on a picture of the home, calling it “sensational” and worth preserving “forever”.
“This house is frozen in time,” another Facebook user wrote.
“It is a near-perfect period piece, more like a movie set and never lived in.”
Mr McNamara said he expected to the house would be popular, but had no idea of the extent to which that would be true.
“People have known this house their whole life,” he said.
“And this is the first time it’s ever gone for sale in 70 years.”
Original blueprints for the house date back to 1948, meaning the house was likely built around 1950.
According to the plans, an extension to the back of the house was completed some years later, in 1966.
A single-motor car garage, a workshop, and a fernery were also factored into plans and still exist at the property, which sits on 2529m2 of land and is surrounded by fruit trees.
“(The home) was built by the owner so a lot of the features in the house, like the wardrobes, are all handmade,” Mr McNamara said.
“And that’s probably why there’s a workshop out the back.”
He said it was truly a one-of-a-kind property and he hoped its new owners would preserve its history.
“I would really love to see this home go to a custodian, someone to look after it for the next 70 years,” he said.
The current homeowners are seeking offers over $449,000.
Those interested in purchasing can attend an open home at 111 Pine Mountain Rd, Brassall at 10am on Saturday January 29.
