A 19-year-old Brisbane teen, allegedly affiliated with notorious gang the Southside Drillas, was found a loaded handgun a court has heard.
Khalid Shabani, 19, faced Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday, July 8 for one count of authority to possess explosives, one count of unlawful possession of weapon category D/H/R and one count of possessing dangerous drugs.
The Forest Lake man, who was making a nail, application, did not enter a plea.
The court heard that police executed a search warrant on Sunday, July 7 and found Mr Shabani in a room with a bag allegedly containing a modified handgun loaded with .22 calibre ammunition.
Cannabis was also found at the property, the court heard.
Police found Mr Shabani’s driver’s license and other identification in the bag and he had been seen with it, the court heard.
A police prosecutor told the court Mr Shabani was a member, or affiliated with, the Southside Drillas gang.
He was a single man with a job in transportation.
Magistrate Dennis Kinsella said Mr Shabani presented an unacceptable risk for bail release.
“There are, to my mind, very grave and significant concerns as to the risk of offending and to my mind (bail conditions) would not be sufficient to ameliorate the relevant risk,” he said.
“It follows similarly that the court would have concerns with respect to the endangerment consideration.”
His bail application was refused and his matter was adjourned to July 29 in Ipswich Magistrates Court.
