Ipswich man Graham Wilcox arrested over alleged kitchen knife robbery attempts

The identity of a man who police allege threatened two cashiers with a kitchen knife this month has now been revealed, as he faced court today from behind bars.

An Ipswich man has been charged after a series of attempted robberies in which he is alleged to have threatened two cashiers with a kitchen knife.

East Ipswich resident Graham Desmond Wilcox, 24, fronted Ipswich Magistrates Court from behind bars today, May 22.

Police will allege Mr Wilcox attempted to rob two businesses in East Ipswich on May 16 and May 8.

They allege he entered a take away store on Jacaranda Street on May 8 at around 8:20pm armed with a kitchen knife.

Mr Wilcox is alleged to have approached the employee at the front counter and threatened him, demanding cash.

The employee complied and was not physically injured.

Police will further allege that on May 16, Mr Wilcox entered a convenience store on Jacaranda Street at around 7pm.

It is alleged he was once again armed with a kitchen knife and that he similarly threatened an employee at the front counter, demanding cash.

Mr Wilcox stands charged with armed robbery with actual violence in relation to the May 8 incident, and attempted armed robbery with actual violence in relation to the May 16 incident.

He is also charged with one count of attempted enter dwelling with intent by break at night – alleged to have occurred on April 26 in Leichhardt – and one count of attempted enter dwelling with intent, alleged to have occurred on February 9 at Nundah.

He was represented at his Ipswich Magistrates Court mention by legal aid lawyer Erin Dwan.

He made no application for bail and was remanded in custody for mention on June 16.
