Goodna’s Dylin Rey fails third bail application for firearm charge

A man has failed in his latest bail attempt after being charged with unlawful possession of a weapon following an alleged shooting in Goodna last year.

A man who was charged after an alleged shooting in Ipswich last year has failed his third bail application.

Emergency services were called to Gorry St in Goodna about 1am on December 6 last year following reports of multiple shots being fired into a residence. No one was injured.

Police arrested three men, including then 27-year-old Dylin Rey.

Mr Rey, now 28, was charged with one count of unlawful possession of a category D/H/R weapon, one count of obstructing police officers and one count of possessing utensils or pipes.

He applied for bail on Tuesday, July 10, in Ipswich Magistrates Court.

The court heard Mr Rey allegedly told police a person in a vehicle which had been driving past threatened to blow his head off with a shotgun.

The court was told the car then reversed before Mr Rey jumped a fence.

Police later found a sawn-off rifle on the roof of a hom, the court heard.

Defence lawyer Paddy O’Donnell said the firearm was found in the neighbour’s residence.

“My client was living next door, so it wasn’t found in his home,” he said.

“He didn’t have a firearm at all. It was a gel blaster.”

The court heard there was also CCTV footage of the alleged incident.

Magistrate Melanie Ho said it was Mr Rey’s third bail application, with the previous two rejected based on an affidavit submitted by the prosecution.

“For a material change of circumstance, this doesn’t reach it,” she said.

“If the evidence … shows that this rifle is not the rifle that he had, which was a gel blaster or something else, then that makes it completely different.

“Someone’s going to look at the CCTV and decide whether or not this will go to trial.

“Given he’s (Mr Rey) got a limited history, I think it’s crucial that you (his defence) find out what the evidence is.”

Ms Ho refused the application and adjourned the case to July 30.

Mr Rey was not required to enter a plea.
