A man has been charged with drugging and raping a child in a southeast Queensland suburb earlier this year.
The Ipswich Magistrates Court heard at his bail application on March 6 that he had previously been convicted of sexually abusing another child.
The man, in his 20s, stands charged with rape, stupefying in order to commit indictable offence, stealing, giving false or misleading information, and three counts of failing to comply with his reporting conditions.
Police will allege he drugged, raped, and stole from the child on February 1, 2024, in Logan Central.
Defence lawyer Matthew Fairclough said his client was contesting the allegations.
But police prosecutor Nick Turnbull said the evidence against the man was “strong”.
He said the man was “simply an unacceptable risk and a danger to the young people of our community”.
The man was currently on the child protection offender registrar, having been convicted some years ago of indecent treatment of a child under 12, Sergeant Turnbull said.
Magistrate Jason Schubert said the man was “such an unacceptable risk that he’d commit further offences to endanger the community”.
The man’s bail was denied, and he was remanded in custody for mention on March 22.
