PLANS to convert an auto parts shop into a 24-hour gym along on a busy Ipswich thoroughfare have been submitted to the council for approval.

A development application was lodged by Booval 4304 Pty Ltd to Ipswich City Council concerning the building which previously housed Burson Auto Parts on Brisbane Road in Booval.

The building was put up for sale last year after the national auto chain ended its five-year tenure in October.

Plans have been lodged to convert the building previously occupied by Burson Spare Parts into an Anytime Fitness Gym.

The sale of the property settled a few weeks ago.

Burson relocated to the corner of Briggs Road and Parrott Street in Ipswich.

The proposed gym would run as an Anytime Fitness franchise, which has more 4,000 sites around the world.

Anytime Fitness already has several gyms across Ipswich in Springfield Lakes, Goodna, Redbank Plains, Ripley and Yamanto.

More than 20,000 vehicles use Brisbane Road every day and the 2549 m2 site also has a frontage to Nimmo Street.

“The proposed development seeks to establish a 24/7 gym (Anytime Fitness) within the existing building on the site,” the application noted.

“Anytime Fitness has ticked all the boxes in terms of accessibility, flexibility and affordability, and members truly value having that 24-hour access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.”

The two-storey building will be “retained and enhanced” with external works proposed on the frontages along Brisbane Road and Nimmo Street.

It is proposed it would run 24 hours a day, even days a week.

“The proposed ground floor plan consists of a large open area designed for gym activities, with equipment storage, an ancillary office, and other necessary amenities supporting the proposed use,” the application noted.

“The proposed mezzanine level will also accommodate additional gym space.

“The proposed 24/7 gym will maintain the existing landscape arrangements, which involves a 760 m2 area of large trees and medium shrubbery separating the adjoining sites.

“The subject site provides 22 existing car parking bays for the development, which is to be increased to (a total of 29 to) accommodate the proposed development.”

The application stated the new tenant already owns a number of Anytime Fitness gyms.
