Authorities were forced to remove the windows to retrieve an elderly Ipswich couple whose bodies were found during a welfare check, with police saying that was the only way they could enter the house.

Two found dead in Brassall home

New details surrounding the sudden deaths of a “quiet but friendly’’ Ipswich couple have emerged as relatives returned to the home where they were found.

The bodies of a man and a woman in their 70s were found in their Chuwar St, Brassall home on Monday night, after police arrived to conduct a welfare check about 8.50pm.

The couple were identified by neighbours as Kim McKeon and Stephenie Cass.

A Queensland police spokeswoman said the bodies were not removed until 3.45pm on Tuesday afternoon.

By that time, the panes and frame of a window on the first floor of the house were missing and curtains were spilling out onto an exterior wall.

The police spokeswoman confirmed the window panes had been pushed out so the bodies could be removed.

She said police were unable to enter the house any other way as there was “furniture piled up”.

Neighbours said the couple had lived in the home for about 40 years.

“Sometimes I walked past them and the man was reading his newspaper outside his house,” a neighbour, who asked not to be named, said.

“They were quiet and kept to themselves.

“They liked to walk around.”

Another resident nearby said she was told the house used to be “the most immaculate house on (the) street” but it had “deteriorated” in the past 20 years.

On Tuesday, a police spokeswoman said the bodies had been in the house for some time and the man and woman had “succumbed to their environment”.

She said the deaths were not being treated as suspicious.

It is understood the couple were unwell and passed together.
