Lockyer on the big screen with The Rock

LOCKYER Valley residents can have fun playing spot the scenery when they get the chance to watch The Rock in Hollywood action thriller San Andreas.

LOCKYER Valley residents can have fun playing spot the scenery when they get the chance to watch The Rock in Hollywood action thriller San Andreas.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson rolled into the Lockyer Valley last year to film parts of the movie that is hitting the big screen this week.

San Andreas is an action-packed disaster movie starring The Rock as an emergency helicopter pilot. The film was officially released in cinemas throughout Australia late last week.

Lockyer Valley residents have extra incentive to see the movie with scenes from the Hollywood blockbuster filmed in the Lockyer Valley.

With a budget of about $100 million, Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones said the release of the movie was much-anticipated in the Lockyer Valley.

"Last year the region was abuzz with Hollywood stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Carla Gugino here to do the film," the Mayor said.

"The actors shot scenes on Tenthill Creek Rd with several residents doing their best to get a sneak peak at the movie. In particular many residents were hoping to catch a glimpse of The Rock.

"The topography of Tenthill was chosen as an ideal location to replicate the rural California landscape.

"From the footage I have seen so far, the Tenthill Creek Rd gets destroyed by an earthquake but thankfully this was all just special effects."

The official trailer was released late last year with shots of the Lockyer Valley prominent in the teaser.

"For the Lockyer Valley to be a part of something like this is terrific for the region and something we would welcome again in the future," Cr Jones said.

"We are always interested in promoting the Lockyer Valley and collaborating on projects like this is great for the region.

"When the film was first being made we discussed potential sites with the location scout and have assisted with the production of the film wherever possible, including closing traffic on Tenthill Creek Rd during production."
