A new childcare centre with capacity for more than 100 children will soon open its doors to families in a growing Ipswich suburb.

Plans for the centre’s design include a single-storey, L-shaped building with a gross floor area of 788m2 and a maximum height of 5.22m, as well as 804m2 of outplay space and an outdoor utility area.

The business is expected to cater for up to 111 children aged between six weeks and five years old and 21 full-time equivalent staff. It will operate between 6.30am and 6.30pm from Monday to Friday, with 36 carparking spaces provided on-site for families and staff.

The building’s exterior will feature “timber-look” cladding, rendered brickwork, and Colorbond sheeting, with windows and a roof that has multiple skillion sections.

“The proposed design seeks to achieve a low-rise built form that comfortably sits within the surrounding emerging low-medium density residential context, as well as complement the scale and appearance of buildings situated at the adjoining school,” plans for the development read.

“Specifically, the proposed design achieves a single storey, dwelling-like external appearance which is further enhanced through a combination of light colour tones as well as the use contemporary materials and finishes including timber and Colorbond.”

Situated within the southern extent of Redbank Plains, the site the centre will be built upon is bordered by popular coeducational school Staines Memorial College, established terrace-style housing, and an unimproved lot. It is currently improved by a single residential home.

Ipswich City Council approved the application subject to a number of conditions, including that acoustic fencing be provided and designated staff parking be marked accordingly.
