POLICE investigations into the cause of a five-car pile up on the Warrego Hwy at Hatton Vale, which left nine people injured, are continuing.
Initial investigations indicate that about 1.10pm on Friday a number of vehicles were slowing or stopped due to roadworks on the eastbound lanes of the highway.
A truck carrying gas bottles braked heavily before crashing into the rear of a four-wheel-drive causing it to roll several times.
A chain reaction involved a further four vehicles.
A total of five vehicles, two trailers - one carrying a car - and nine people were involved in the crash.
A Wynnum man, 55, the driver of the truck, had to be cut from the wreckage and was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Another driver, a Yeronga woman, 63, suffered a leg injury and was also taken to hospital.
