GPS association to delay resumption of full school sport schedule

The GPS association will delay the resumption of the full elite school sport schedule because of Queensland’s Covid-19 surge. Here’s how it will impact your kids’ sports programs.

The GPS association has delayed the start of its full term 1 school sport schedule and activities until February 11-12.

While First and A teams in across year levels 7-12 in cricket, debating and volleyball will resume as planned playing on January 28-29, the vast majority of the sporting and activities participates will be held back from competition until round 3, February 11-12.

All sports and activities were schedule to start on January 28-29.

The decision to delay the start of competition followed the spread of the Omicron strain of COVID-19 and State Government health advice.

“The priority of the GPS Association is to provide students with the opportunity to participate safely in Sport and Activities and to maintain a safe environment for staff, parents and volunteers,’’ the GPS association stated in a prepared statement.

Term 1 sports and activities are cricket, volleyball, debating, swimming, rowing and music.

“Schools will be allowed to train and participate in trial matches as approved by

individual school headmasters/principals in the lead-up to a return to full schedule competition in round three (February 11-12).’’
