DESPITE last week's deluge, Bunnings says work on its imposing new warehouse on Brisbane St, West Ipswich, is on track.

Bunnings chief operating officer Peter Davis said the development of Bunnings Warehouse West Ipswich was on schedule with the warehouse expected to be completed and ready for customers in the middle of the year.

"With the continuing warm weather, the team are advancing well with the roofing and mechanical plant now in place and erection of structural steel advancing well," Mr Davis said.

"Within the next week, internal concrete pours will commence which will continue into April.

"Once complete, Bunnings Warehouse West Ipswich will have a total store size of more than 15,000 square metres, including a main warehouse, indoor timber trade sales area, building materials and landscape supplies yard and outdoor nursery, as well as an indoor playground and café."

With the $46 million West Ipswich Bunnings Warehouse in full swing, Bunnings said the new store had created 400 jobs during construction and would attract 200 positions once it was open for business.

The new Bunnings will join a growing legion of major DIY stores in Ipswich.

The latest member of the team is the Masters store that opened last month at Bundamba, joining its sister store at Springfield Central.

Bunnings, meanwhile, is working on another new warehouse to replace the long-serving store that's closing at Booval.

The Bunnings Warehouse at West Ipswich is certain to have a major impact on traffic in the neighbourhood. It's also sure to affect businesses in the area.

As his store celebrated its fourth birthday last November, Battery World Ipswich franchisee Howdie Farrar said it could only be good for his already successful store.

"It's going to be great for us; we can't wait for it," he said. "Business is already booming but that's going to mean an extra 20% of traffic going past our store.

"It's a fantastic position already and it's only going to get better."
