Beloved Ipswich cafe closed for repairs after early morning smash

A well-loved coffee spot in the heart of Ipswich has been forced to close its doors today after an early morning crash.

At just after 5.30am this morning a car crashed into the side of Ellen and Rod cafe, on the corner of Ellenborough and Roderick Streets, ploughing through a side wall.

Police have now confirmed that the Commodore was stolen.

The daughter of the vehicle’s owner said it was stolen from an Omar Street property in West Ipswich sometime after 3am.

“Mum drove the car at midnight, as I was at the hospital. She went to get something out of it around 3am between 3.45am and the time the photos (of the crash) had been posted it was stolen,” she said.

There was also no-one on site at the business at the time of the crash.

Ellen and Rod shared an image on their Facebook this morning, telling customers they would be closed.

“Due to a car crashing into the shop, looks like we might be closed for a few days,” the post said.

There was an outpouring of support for the business on social media this morning, with many pledging to visit the shop when they reopen.
