More than 250 jobs are up for grabs in Ipswich as Australia Post prepares for its “biggest Christmas” ever.

More than 250 workers are needed to fill positions at Australia Post’s huge Ipswich parcel facility as the company gets ready for what is expected to be the most hectic Christmas period in its history.

Thousands of Christmas casual positions are on offer across the country with about 690 new staff needed in Queensland.

Jobs up for grabs include roles in parcel and mail processing, customer service, van and truck drivers, and forklift operators.

Australia Post’s ‘flagship’ $240 million parcel and delivery centre in Redbank is the largest in the southern hemisphere and opened two years ago.

The 50,000 m2 warehouse is capable of processing up to 700,000 parcels a day at its peak, with hundreds of staff on-site year round.

It is the size of eight football fields.

The Ipswich facility was hailed as an important milestone in Australia Post’s “transformation” from delivering letters to an advanced e-commerce delivery and services organisation when it opened in 2019.

More than 250 parcel and mail processing positions at the site will become available. and no experience is needed to apply.

“Last December we delivered 52 million parcels, the biggest month in Australia Post’s history until that was surpassed in August of this year, and early indications are that this Christmas will be our biggest yet,” an Australia Post spokeswoman said.

“We are currently consistently delivering more than 10 million parcels a week, and expect to deliver up to 500,000 parcels each and every weekend from now until Christmas, and are recruiting new people to help us keep processing and delivering throughout this busy period.”

A little over $100 million was spent on the state-of-the-art fit-out of the facility, which included robotic arms, automated parcel pickers and autonomous forklifts.
