GYMPIE motorists who fill up with diesel were buying it for an average 153.8cpl last month; the best price in Queensland, according to the state's peak motoring body.
The RACQ yesterday urged Sunshine Coast motorists to fill up with unleaded petrol before prices rise sharply, as they are expected to do.
RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said south-east Queensland was moving out of the cheap phase of the petrol price cycle, with some servos hiking prices about 20cpl.
"The average cost of ULP on the Sunshine Coast is currently 138.9cpl, but a number of service stations in the south-east have already moved to the high price of 159.9cpl," Ms Smith said.
"If motorists choose to delay filling up, or choose the wrong servo, they risk paying close to 20cpl more."
RACQ's Monthly Fuel Price Report revealed Sunshine Coast motorists continued to pay less for ULP than many other parts of the state.
The report found that in July the Sunshine Coast's ULP average of 151.1cpl was the second cheapest in Queensland behind Warwick on 149.4cpl.
"Nearby in Gympie, motorists filling up with diesel were purchasing at the best prices in the State with an average of 153.8cpl," Ms Smith said.
Ms Smith encouraged Sunshine Coast motorists to always shop around before filling up.
