A Mary Valley couple has unveiled plans to transform a rural home into a mini campsite amid a popular tourism trend.

Australians are 'incredibly keen' to travel

Tourism and camping continues to be a hot industry in the Gympie region with a Traveston landowner unveiling plans to open private rural land to campers.

Troy and Candice Raemond have asked Gympie Regional Council for permission to open the small tourist park on their land about 18km southeast of Gympie.

The Raemonds want to establish space for four campsites on the 39.7ha block.

The campsites would be situated at the back of the land which is bordered by Kenman and Traveston roads.

They would be accessed by a track opening of Kenman Rd.

Guests would need to bring their own portable toilets to the campground and be responsible for disposing their own waste: the application says the park will run under a “leave no trace” policy.

An on-site caretaker would monitor the campsites when guests leave to ensure no rubbish has been left behind.

The Raemonds proposal comes on the heels of a separate plan to transform a 35.35ha block about 3km west of their property into a major tourist park.

In that proposal, still under assessment by the council, the land would be transformed into a campground capable of hosting 250 RVs and 100 campsites.

Four barbecue areas, an amenities building, administration building and a large 60 spot car park area are included in the proposal, pitched by property developer Allan Holliday.
