A young girl was flown to a Brisbane Hospital after being backed over by a ute on K’gari on Thursday, leaving her with serious injuries and forcing her father to help save her life.

Emergency services were called to an area near the Cathedrals, on the island’s eastern beach, at 9.56am.

An RACQ Lifeflight spokeswoman said it was believed “the rear and front tyres” rolled over the toddler “at low speed, pushing her face-first into the sand”.

She was reportedly “unresponsive immediately after the incident and her father performed CPR for about one minute”.

Her parents drove her to an area near the Cathedrals to wait for emergency services, and a ranger then drove the girl 400m to the waiting rescue helicopter.

The toddler had extensive bruising and tyre marks on her leg, back and ear.

She was flown to the Queensland Children's’ Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
