A 30-year-old father and business owner was sentenced to jail on Monday, after he was busted with large amounts of drugs in his car at Goomeri in March.

Tyson Ashley Wynne fronted Gympie Magistrates Court via video link from the Woodford Correctional Centre on Monday, where he pleaded guilty to three drug charges including possession of marijuana, methamphetamine and a used glass pipe.

Police prosecutor Michael Phillips told the court police were patrolling along the Burnett Highway at Goomeri on March 4, when they pulled over a silver Mitsubishi in Post Office Lane.

Sergeant Phillips said that after a short conversation with the driver, Wynne, police searched the car and found a black sunglasses case under the driver’s seat.

“The case contained two clip seal bags and aggressive amounts of methamphetamine,” Sgt Phillips said.

Police also found unused clip seal bags, small plastic bags with various amounts of marijuana and a partially smoked, rolled joint.

A separate amount of marijuana was also found inside the car and was identified as hash.

Sgt Phillips told the court the drugs were weighed, with 2.39 grams of methamphetamine, 11 grams of marijuana, and 0.24 grams of hash.

A glass pipe was also found with distinctive brown stains, as well as a plastic straw and a small sponge.

Sgt Phillips said Wynne told police all items found were his and said he had used the pipe earlier in the day to smoke methamphetamine.

Wynne was then arrested and taken to Goomeri police station.

Defence lawyer Shane Elliott said prior to being taken into custody, his client was the owner of a highly-regarded building business.

Mr Elliot also said his client’s methamphetamine use increased after his father passed away from cancer in 2018, before he managed to get clean.

However, Wynne relapsed in March just before he was caught.

Magistrate Chris Callaghan said Wynne was also on bail at the time.

Wynne was sentenced to two months jail, and will be released on parole on September 25.
