Swift water rescue crews have saved a driver and their dog from flash flooding on Gympie’s outskirts as heavy rain continues to fall across the region.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene on Anderleigh Rd, not far from its intersection with Tin Can Bay Rd, shortly before 1pm on Friday, amid reports the car was stuck about 50m into flood water.

The man and his pet managed to climb onto the roof of the car to await rescue.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said two swift water crews were able to reach the man and ferry him and his pet back to safety.

It was the same spot Matt Forrest saved a terrified couple from their own stranded car in a pre-dawn rescue caught on dashcam early Friday morning.
