The final rounds of the Queensland Cricket T20 Max competition will take place on the Sunshine Coast this weekend with a range of International, Big Bash and Sheffield Shield players taking to the field.

Both the men’s and women’s divisions will be on show at the Maroochydore Cricket Club on September 2 and 3.

Clubs have been able to attract a host of current and former BBL and WBBL players for the three-week competition, with several ex-Queenslanders linking with their former Premier Cricket clubs.

Team lists in the opening rounds have included star players such as D’Arcy Short, Jordan Silk, Jake Weatherald, Cooper Connolly, Paddy Dooley, James Bazley, Sam Heazlett, Jimmy Pierson, Ben McDermott, Josh Brown, Cameron Boyce, Matt Kuhnemann, Gurinder Sandhu and more.

Leading interstate WBBL stars such as Jemma Barsby (Sandgate-Redcliffe), Katie Mack (Sandgate-Redcliffe), Hannah Darlington (Sunshine Coast), Chloe Piparo (Wynnum-Manly), Josie Dooley (Wests), Sammy-Jo Johnson (Gold Coast), Maddie Penna (University of Qld) and Courtney Webb (Sandgate-Redcliffe) have also linked with contracted WBBL Heat and Queensland Fire players in the women’s T20 Max competition.

Scorchers recruit and Melbourne Renegades star Mackenzie Harvey leads the run scorers tally with 255 while Caboolture Snakes star Preston White sits in third with 167.

Sunshine Coast men’s head coach Brad Wigney said he was proud of how his side had competed against the elite level teams.

“For us Mackenzie Harvey has been great, Liam Scott has also been very good as he’s only going at five runs per over and has made 160 odd runs,“ he said.

“Jay Lenton has hit the ball well when he’s had his opportunities, Sam Truloff is making a few runs too and his best performance was last match so hopefully he can carry that on.”

The Scorchers women’s team have started the season with one win and two losses while the men are still searching for their first points of the season.

Wigney said the end results had been tough to take.

“We’ve made a lot of runs but haven’t had a result yet and then on Wednesday night we copped the back end of it because it was drizzling rain most of the time,” he said

“That was tough to take but the opposition played well and then the first three games we’ve been in it, we’ve made nearly 600 runs but haven’t won a game.

“It’s just been a player in each team has got a hold of us and that’s been the end story but we haven’t played bad cricket.”

The T20 Max competition is viewed as a pre-season series ahead of the 1st grade one and two day competition that begins on September 16.
