Following a fight between two Tin Can Bay State School students that was filmed by a student and posted on online, the Queensland Department of Education has responded to the incident.

The video, shot near the school library last week, was uploaded to a private Instagram account and showed two male students yelling, swearing and punching each other in the face.

A spokesman from the Department of Education said, in response to the incident, that Tin Can Bay State School is committed to providing a safe, respectful and disciplines learning environment.

“The school does not tolerate violence or anti-social behaviour and works to promote safe, respectful interactions and learning environments for everyone in the school community,” the spokesman said.

“Students involved in behaviour incidents are managed by the school, in line with the school’s Student Code of Conduct.”

Two parents have now spoken out about the violence and bullying that has been going on at the school, with one mum saying she now has to homeschool her son who was targeted.

The government spokesman said students and families with concerns are strongly encouraged to report cases of bullying or misconduct to the school, the nearest Department of Education Regional Office or the Queensland Police Service.

“The school has Guidance Officers and support available to any students who may require it,” they said.
