Gympie man Michael Carter found after Tin Can Bay search

The hunt for 40-year-old Michael Carter near Tin Can Bay has come to an end, but few details have been revealed about what happened since police started looking for him after finding a car he was believed to have been driving abandoned near bushland.

Michael Carter has been found safe and well by police following a 24-hour search after a car he was believed to have been driving was found abandoned near bushland along Tin Can Bay Rd.

The search for a missing Gympie man Michael Carter has ended after the 40-year-old was found safe and well.

Emergency services had been searching for Mr Carter after a blue sedan he was believed to have been driving was found abandoned at the intersection of Maryborough Cooloola and Tin Can Bay roads about 4.45am Tuesday.

Police said it had been involved in a minor crash.

The 40-year-old had reportedly left his Gympie home to drive to Mothar Mountain on Monday.

He never arrived.

RACQ Lifeflight was called in help the search on Tuesday afternoon.

SES and the RACQ Lifeflight helicopter were called in to join the search of bushland near where the car was found Tuesday afternoon.

The search continued Wednesday morning as police investigated alleged sightings of Mr Carter.

No details about Mr Carter’s whereabouts during the past 24 hours have been released by police.
