An East Deep Creek man was sentenced in Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday for wilfully exposing himself to three young women at the Mothar Mountain rock pools.
Shane Trevor Gosling, 39, went to the popular swimming and picnic spot near Gympie about 5pm on March 16, 2022, where three girls, one under 18, were having a swim.
The girls observed Gosling continuously staring at them and began to feel uncomfortable, the court heard.
Apart from Gosling, they were the only people there.
The girls moved to the opposite side of the rock pools and further upstream and out of sight of the man, the court heard.
But he soon after appeared before them once again with his shirt off, and sat on the rocks watching them.
Feeling uncomfortable, the girls got out of the water, and started to collect their things to leave.
When they turned around Gosling had taken his genitals from his pant leg, and started stroking himself whilst looking directly at the girls.
They immediately became concerned for their welfare, the court heard.
They ran to their car and took a picture of his vehicle, the only remaining vehicle in the car park, and reported the incident to police.
Gosling attended the police station on May 9, and said he was likely at the rock pools on that day.
He couldn’t report to police what had occured, the court heard.
Gosling told police he had taken his shirt off while having a drink and a smoke.
Police observed a tattoo on his shoulder consistent with the description the girls had given, the court heard.
Gosling is a father of two children, and has been married for 11 years. His wife was in the gallery of the court, in support of her husband. Gosling currently works as a concreter, and regularly visits the location after work when it’s hot.
He was fined $250 and a conviction was recorded.
