Driver caught on video being stopped after doing 200km/h at Tansey

A 26-year-old Gympie man in a black BMW has been busted doing almost 200km/h on the Burnett Hwy near Tansey. Watch the video as police pull him over:

A young Gympie man doing almost 200km/h has been stopped by police at Tansey near Gympie and fined $1800.

A video of the man being pulled over and told what speed he was doing has been released by police, who told him he had also lost eight demerit points.

Police said they caught the driver on May 28, while were conducting mobile patrols along the Burnett Highway. They saw his black BMW being driven at high speed around 4.50pm.

The 26-year-old man was detected travelling at 196km/hr in a 100km/hr zone prior to being intercepted.

The driver from McIntosh Creek was fined $1854 and 8 demerit points.

On Fatality Free Friday police reminded all road users about the importance of driving responsibly and avoiding the fatal five of speeding, distraction, drink driving, fatigue, and failure to wear seatbelts.

Superintendent Janelle Andrews from the Road Policing and Regional Support Command said speeds like this one were unacceptable and puts all road users at risk.

“Every decision you make behind the wheel could affect you or the lives of other people on our roads.

“No family should have to go through the pain of losing a loved one through road trauma.

“Mobile patrols like these are about keeping our roads safe for all road users and motorists can expect we will be anywhere at any time,” Supt Andrews said.
