“I just love Gympie. I love the mountains, the hinterland, the community. People are very loyal and accommodating here, from what I’ve found so far.”

It was Gympie’s celebrated country feel and scenic views that decided Brisbane business owner Suzie Lyons on opening a new branch of her popular kids fashion boutique Baby Bien in the heart of the Gold City.

Ms Lyons is opening her new branch in Mary St on Monday morning, bringing imported designer fashion options from the likes of Paris, New York and Madrid for babies and small children of the region.

Ms Lyons moved her business to Brisbane last year after stints in Adelaide and Melbourne, but regular trips north to Gympie soon gave her the inspiration for her latest expansion.

“I noticed there was a real niche for specialised baby clothes and gifts in Gympie,” Ms Lyons said.

“I’ve been in business for 23 years. I was in Adelaide for 20-odd years and then I moved to Toorak in Melbourne, but then I had to close down because of COVID.

“I’ve got a daughter and some family up here, and some family in Adelaide.

“I’ve been coming up to Gympie more or less every weekend since I’ve been in Brisbane, for about 11 months.

“I just love Gympie. I love the mountains, the hinterland, the community. People are very loyal and accommodating here, from what I’ve found so far.”

Ms Lyons said she was looking forward to becoming more familiar with the Gympie community through running her new shop.

“I do gifts, baby shower gifts, clothing. Most of the clothing is important from France, England, America,” she said.

“I’m starting to do more of the older child as well for birthdays and that sort of thing.”

Baby Bien opens on Monday and is located between the Vespa espresso bar and Jessie Co.
