Health services continue to be a growth industry in Gympie with plans unveiled to build a new medical centre near the city’s Central Shopping Centre.
Developer Balpese Pty Ltd has asked for permission to replace a low-set timber house at the corner of Stanley St and Excelsior Rd with a new medical centre.
The block is less than 200m away from the shopping centre.
The developers’ application lodged with Gympie Regional Council says the block is surrounded by businesses and older houses “which are likely to be redeveloped for a commercial or business purposes in the near future”.
Patients will be able to enter and exit off Excelsior St with another exit planned to join Stanley St.
The layout of the centre “will be determined by the … occupant”, the developers say, but it will ultimately include a reception area, waiting room, bathrooms, a staff kitchen and several consultation rooms.
Twenty-six parking spaces will be provided including an ambulance bay.
The council is also considering another application to establish a new medical clinic at Cooloola Cove.
A four-storey aged care home was also approved for the region in February.
