It’s in early stages, but a brand new tourist park is on the cards for the Gympie region.

An application was lodged to the council on January 27 for a “tourist park and ancillary caretaker accommodation” at Amamoor, just 15 minutes out of Gympie, off Mary Valley Link Rd and Dobson Rd.

Property Developer Alan Holliday confirmed the plan was to create a new camping and caravan location.

The 35.35ha property will offer 250 RV spots and 100 camping sites.

Plans include four barbecue areas, an amenities building, administration building and a large 60 spot car park area.

In the centre lay a large dam and the camping site is right next to the Mary River.

The land is currently vacant and used for cattle grazing and from 1980-2013 it was used for extracting sand and gravel to supply landscaping products.

Mr Holliday says it could take up to twelve months to receive approval from the council.

A Gympie Regional council spokesman said the council didn’t yet have enough information on the matter and it was too early to provide a comment at the time of publication.

The idea has been in the works since January 7, 2020, when a pre lodgement meeting with the council first occurred.

More to come.
