Mungar Rd at Tiaro no longer closed after inspection was completed earlier in week

A main bridge in Tiaro is now open after the annual inspection was completed ahead of schedule.

UPDATE:

A Transport and Main Roads spokesperson has confirmed the Mary River Bridge on Mungar Road is open to all traffic.

Maintenance works were completed between May 17 and, 2021.

These works allowed a planned annual inspection to be completed at the same time.

“The programmed temporary bridge closure between May 19 and 20 May 2021 is no longer required,” the spokesperson said.

“We apologise for any confusion as a result of this change.”

EARLIER:

Mungar Rd Bridge at Tiaro over the Mary River will be closed to all traffic at certain times over the next few days.

On Wednesday May 19 and Thursday May 20, the main road will be out of action from 9.30am until 2pm on both days.

A spokesperson from the Department of Transport and Main Roads said the closure was due to a routine annual bridge inspection.

They said the times were chosen to be inside school hours in order to not impact drop off and pick up times.

The days may be subject to change if the weather is not suitable.
