A Gympie mother on the verge of homelessness has been dealt a cruel blow after heartless thieves stole the caravan that was set to become her only home.
Jasmine Patfield spoke to the Gympie Times on her mother-in-law Kylie Robinson’s behalf, explaining the heartbreak she had endured in recent years.
Ms Robinson, 50, also has a six-year-old son, has been battling cancer and lost her partner two years ago.
Now, she’s caught up in the housing crisis and had been filling her caravan with her most precious possessions and family memories as she prepared to move into it.
“She’s going to be homeless at the end of the month,” Ms Patfield said.
“That caravan’s her life at the moment because that’s her only house at the moment.”
Ms Patfield said her family hadn’t realised there was no CCTV at the storage facility where the caravan was being kept.
“She’s distressed now, she doesn’t even know where she’s going to live,” she said.
“There’s so many caravans going missing because of the housing crisis.
“It’s just frustrating some people just don’t realise some people are in horrible situations and need somewhere to live. It was there for her just in case she had nowhere to go. She needs it.”
Ms Patfield said it was an older style caravan and that the family had last made a trip to place more possessions inside it on Easter Sunday before it went missing overnight.
The caravan’s registration is 476UKE.
The theft has been reported to police.
