New townhouses and a mini golf course are among additions planned at Gympie’s golf course as its owners begin work on a radical facelift proposed for the region’s fairways and greens.

The plans were revealed as part of initial overtures by Gympie SC (Land) Pty Ltd to Gympie Regional Council seeking approval to build a series of short- and long-term housing at the Shields St property.

Two applications have so far been lodged with the council’s planning department.

Each development is planned to be built at the course’s southeastern edge along Shields St.

One of proposals is to build 20 short-term residential cabins along side the course, available to guests for short-term stays at the club.

The application, lodged by Wiltshire Stevens Architects, says each cabin will have “a studio style layout with (a) combined living and bedroom, single bathroom, and small outdoor private deck”.

Eighteen parking spots are planned to be built alongside the cabins.

The second application seeks approval to build 36 townhouses on land sitting close to the corner of Shields St and Corella Rd.

The townhouses will be up to three storeys tall, each with three bedrooms.

Plans included as part of the application include designs for a mini golf complex, driving range and live performance stage.

No details for these specific stages are included in the lodged applications.

The plans do not include any information as to how the developments will change the layout of the 18-hole golf course.

The council has not yet made any decision on the two applications.

It is the latest part of an ongoing overhaul of the golf course and its club.

The club itself was renovated in 2019, and the carpark directly opposite its entrance was upgraded in 2021.
