For more than 20 years Mary Valley builder Gordon Maudsley has been helping the community through his own business and work with groups like Friends of Amamoor.
Now he wants to take a new approach.
Mr Maudsley is setting aside the tools to take a shot at winning a seat on Gympie Regional Council at the March 2024 election, vying for the spot currently held by incumbent Bob Fredman.
Mr Fredman has not yet announced his plans for the election.
Mr Maudsley has been in the building industry for about 30 years, including working at Bundaberg, Gladstone and the Torres Strait.
He moved to Amamoor with his family about 20 years ago and launched his own company.
A married father of three “fantastic” sons, he said his family found a wonderful community which had been a huge part in keeping them here ever since.
The Maudsley’s middle child now ran his own Gympie building business, he said.
The eldest managed Telstra at Alice Springs, and the youngest was in Canada working the ski season.

He had concerns about the council’s long term waste management plans too, particularly the possibility of rubbish being trucked to other regions.
Some of these concerns had the benefit of doubling as Mr Maudsley’s “hobbies”.
He was passionate about land management on his property, and had been involved with the Friends of Amamoor and other community groups too.
What he wanted now was to take that passion for the community and use it to help the region move forward.
“I’d like to continue the good work Bob (Fredman) has been doing,” Mr Maudsley said.
